Empower Hmong Women and Girls. Invest in a Future of Possibility.

Hnub Tshiab: Hmong Women Achieving Together is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1997 and incorporated in 2007. Our mission is to be a catalyst for social, institutional, and cultural change to improve the lives of Hmong women. Hundreds of Hmong women and girls have gone through Hnub Tshiab's leadership programs, its networking and mentorship programs, and benefited from its shared publications with other institutions and writers, such as the Hmong Women's Oral History Project, Hmong Women Write Now!, and Staring Down the Tiger. Hnub Tshiab is the longest-standing social change, leadership, and capacity-building organization in the nation led by and serving Hmong women.

Every Hmong woman deserves the opportunity to lead, thrive, and shape her own future. Your gift helps make that possible.

In Minnesota, nearly 50,000 Hmong women and girls are part of a community with a growing legacy of achievement, leadership, and resilience.

Hmong women have made remarkable educational gains. In 1990, just 19% held a high school diploma. By 2021, that number had grown to 84%. The percentage of Hmong women with bachelor's degrees also rose from 3% to 19.9%, surpassing Hmong men at 15.9%.

This progress is worth celebrating. And there is more work to do.

For generations, Hmong women have contributed to their families, communities, and society. Yet their voices, leadership, and experiences still deserve greater recognition and representation. Together, we can help create a future where Hmong women and girls are valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Your Gift Creates Lasting Change

Hnub Tshiab works to create lasting cultural, institutional, and social change that improves the lives of Hmong women.

We bring Hmong women and girls together, nurture emerging leaders, elevate their contributions, and advocate for opportunities for their voices to be heard and their leadership to be recognized.

Through culturally grounded programs and community engagement, we help Hmong women build the skills, confidence, and connections to lead in their families, workplaces, and communities.

When you give to Hnub Tshiab, you invest in more than a program. You invest in the women who will shape our collective future.

Hnub Tshiab Leadership Institute (HTLI)

Our Hnub Tshiab Leadership Institute, formerly called Hmong Women Leadership Institute (HWLI), supports emerging and current Hmong women leaders as they grow their skills, build meaningful connections, and discover new ways to create change.

This five- to six-month program brings together 10–12 women for leadership education, training, community building, and cultural learning rooted in Hmong history, language, and traditions.

Alumnae have shared that participating in our programs has helped them:

  • Build the confidence to step into leadership roles

  • Embrace “leader” as part of their identity

  • Find a safe, supportive space to voice thoughts and experiences they’ve carried quietly for years

Things happen for a reason. I felt very alone in my leadership journey. I didn't grow up around strong Hmong women. Joining HWLI, I felt heard, and that what I cared about deserved to be heard. My passions felt burned out, but now I can move them forward again.

Skills alumnae carry with them beyond the program:

  • Confident, values-driven leadership

  • Effective communication and conflict resolution

  • Group facilitation and organizational skills

  • Self-awareness, reflection, and personal growth

Meeting wonderful Hmong women in their vulnerability was magical. These leaders are dynamic, coming from all walks of life, and we all have different stories. To be a part of people’s transformation was awesome. Taught me about how to truly listen without having people tell you, to not take up so much space, and to give space to others.

A Legacy of Leadership: Nakita Vang

Blog Images (6).png

At Hnub Tshiab's 2026 Living Our Dreams gala, we honored Nakita Vang as our Hmong Woman of the Year. Her story reflects the lasting impact of investing in Hmong women's leadership.

Nakita participated in Hnub Tshiab's Hmong Women Leadership Institute in 2015. Looking back on that experience, she shared:

“It was the first time I heard the words Hmong women and Leader in the same sentence.”

Today, Nakita is the founder of Heal in Heels, creating spaces where Hmong women can build confidence, feel empowered, and connect with themselves and one another through movement and community. Her work brings together women across generations and walks of life.

Nakita's journey is a powerful reminder of what can happen when Hmong women are given the opportunity to learn, lead, and grow. The impact of that investment can extend far beyond one person.

Imagine how many more leaders can emerge when we continue investing in Hmong women and girls.

Your Generosity Makes This Work Possible

When you give to Hnub Tshiab this Give to the Max Day, you help advance a future where Hmong women and girls have greater opportunities to:

  • Lead with confidence through culturally grounded leadership programs and mentorship.

  • Shape their communities by connecting with others and engaging in social change.

  • Be seen and heard through greater recognition of Hmong women's contributions, experiences, and perspectives.

  • Reach their full potential with opportunities to grow, lead, and shape their own futures.

Lasting change happens when we invest in people, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for the next generation.

Hnub Tshiab cannot do this work alone. We need a community of supporters who believe Hmong women and girls deserve the opportunity to thrive, lead, and determine their own destinies.

Give Today. Empower Generations.
